Recruitment for Leadership Institute 2010 Deadline Has Passed

The Community Leadership Institute is extending the deadline for applications to the 10th annual Leadership Institute.  The Leadership Institute is a tuition-free, experience-centered program established in 2000 to provide leadership development, training and mentoring for people committed to improving the quality of life in economically disadvantaged communities.

The Leadership Institute consists of six all-day sessions (8:30 am - 5:00 pm), one Saturday per month from June through November.  CLI class members are expected to participate in the design, planning and execution of a collaborative project of benefit to the community.

This year up to 30 individuals will be selected for the new class, based on written applications, letters of recommendation and interviews with the 2010 selection committee.

Residents of San Antonio and Bexar County who meet the following criteria may apply:

  • Be at lease 18 years of age
  • Live, work, or actively volunteer in an economically disadvantaged community; for example, being active in their children's school, serving on an advisory board of a community development corporation, officer in their neighborhood association, or serving community in another capacity.
  • Commit to attend ALL CLI training sessions and participate in the community project of your choice.
  • Have limited access to other leadership training opportunities
  • Be nominated by someone who is familiar with their community work and will attest to their leadership qualitites or potential, motivation and commitment to achieve their goals.

Curriculum materials and supplies are provided.  Saturday sessions begin at 8:30 am with a light breakfast and lunch is provided.  Childcare expenses may be reimbursed with prior approval.  CLI 2010 will commence with an evening orientation/mixer welcomed by CLI Alumni on Friday, June 11 and will close in November with a graduation ceremony attended by family, friends, supporters, faculty, partners, alumni and community leaders.
